Hi,

My metro only blows on the very low speed which is basically useless in Arizona :smackface . I have done the zip tie thing and so i know the switch is fine but now im stuck and im kinda getting tired of walking into the office with the back of my shirt dipping in sweat :) .Any ideas what this could be?

Thanks!

First I would pull the plug at the blower motor and make certain you are getting progressively higher voltage delivered to the motor as you toggle the fan switch (I know you said you repaired it but did you make certain it was doing what it is supposed to do?). If that is good the I would check out the blower motor resistor, my experience when the resistor has gone south is that the fan will run on the bottom two speeds or the top two speeds. This is what leads me back to double checking your switch as you say you have only one speed...

I dont know how to check if it gets higher voltage....The switch goes from setting to setting(it clicks into place) but that could be a issue if like maybe it isnt registering to the motor. How would i check that? How do i check the resistor? Sorry for all the questions..im someone who needs instructruction to do things. :D

Do you have a multimeter? any experience using one? You will also want a Factory Service manual, they are available on ebay - you want the one for your specific year as there are some differences year to year.

Sounds like a burned out resistor, it's mounted on the air box with a Phillips screw and has a plug attached to it, pull it out and look at it..

I have a multimeter and I know how to use one but I have no clue where to put it.

If you don't mind can you explain a little more in detail on how to remove it?thanks..how will I know if it's bad?

It's behind the glove box, you'll need to remove it to get to it, its secured by one Phillips screw, unplug it,remove it, it has three windings, if one or more are burnt, it needs replaced, that's what controls the fan speed.

Really? Take it out, you will know if it's burnt or not, just by LOOKING at it, the windings will be broken..

there are 2 wires going into a plug on the blower motor, unplug the connector - inside are two "blades", put one lead from the multimeter on each blade (multimeter should be set to read approx. 5 to 10v dc) Toggle the blower motor switch and see what you get on each of the settings.

Think charcoal crispy/burnt in half. There are two separate wires that look as if they were wound around a skinny pencil - they should be intact.

Do I have to remove the ECM just to get to the resistor?
