Possible to fix disconnected mode control lever?; Lever that selects vents and defrost came unmoored

Hi all,

I was able to get the fan selector switch operating again by adding drops of solder to the bottom contact plate on top of the three raised contact bumps, which had been worn down to the point they wouldn't make contact even with a zip tie around the switch.

BUT: The mode control lever came unmoored after I buttoned it all back together again. It is supposed to be held onto its mooring by what I gather is a snap-type connection (press the lever down onto the male piece it controls and it snaps into place).

Anyone know a fix without removing the whole bezel, etc.? Do I just have to replace the whole selector assembly? Anyone else ever have this happen? I can't find any threads on it anywhere.

Thanks.

Pete

Did is come disconnected at the panel or the heater box? Either way it should be easy to get it reattached.

So...I fixed this problem the other day, finally. The raised rubber bits that are supposed to slide apart and so prevent the lever from popping off its mounting were not staying sufficiently far apart to hold the lever on...maybe there was a piece missing or they are just a little less flexible due to age. Anyway, I was thinking about what I could stick in there that would hold them apart. I thought maybe a pencil eraser might work. And...it did! Here is a pic of the fix:
