when i give my metro the gas i notice that the response time of it reving is somwhat slow, it has a new fuel pump an filter , an has the org injector that has about 4hundred thousand on it but has been cleaned every year, timing is spot on an compression is about 175 on all 3. maby the fuel regulater,? and is it better to convert my distrub to a non vacume advance ? it's a 90 geometro lsi 5 speed. thanks

To convert you will need to change some sensors, wiring and the computer. Might want to check your fuel pressure

How is it idling? Have you done any service recently? Perhaps you did and forgot to hook up a sensor or reconnect a vacuum line? I'd start with all the easy "\facepalm" possibilities first before diving deep.

Also, check EGR system and the PCV valve, clean including passage ways, replace if a parts faulty. I was amazed at the difference after doing those things, more power, smoother delivery, sounds and feels better

I wouldn't convert anything, but it is possible that your vacuum advance distributor isn't advancing properly. I think it's vacuum AND centrifugal, centrifugal advance is pretty well known for being sticky after enough time. Put a timing light on it, rev it up, and see if the timing advances, I think 30 or 40° is normal when fully advanced.

have you replaced your vac lines? they are 26 years old and cheap.

woodie is again, on the track. ;)

the breaker plate in the vacuum type distributors starts to drag which prohibits the mechanical advance and vacuum advance from moving it correctly.

the other 2 main known issues are broken springs on the mechanical advance and perforated, leaking diaphragms in the vacuum canisters.

fainya, and now evmetro, offer distributor rebuilding services. for a 400,000 mile distributor i'd send it to one of those fellows for service and call it a day! ;)
