Starting a new project involving a g16b 16v.. does anyone know how heavy a short block (no head, intake, exhaust.)weighs? Already have the head, and I am trying to see if I can wrestle the block out of the donor vehicle and into my car without a helper today.. I will be using an engine hoist to either pull up or lower down the engine out.. think I'll leave the tranny remaining in the donor car.. ideas, advice? . Thanks

Well.. I can now answer my own question. . It weighs about 120 pounds. Head on full engine block, flywheel pressure plate and clutch.. no alternator, exhaust header, bare intake manifold, and all mounts/braces attached. |

Let me know if you need mounts. I was going to swap in a G16b, but now Project Kodiak is getting a J18. I have accumulated a few parts for what your doing, just let me know. |

Thanks for your thoughtful offer. . I am probably going about this a little haphazardly.. accumulate as many g16 parts, then inventory/ research what I'm missing. I'll start a build thread in the Projects subforum soon. I have a feeling it may be a drivetrain looking for a car to put it in..

Does it really help? I wonder why so any members converting their automatics to manuals didn't leave this torque strut in place ? The g16 transmission has three bosses to bolt onto it. |

Are you putting it in a metro/swift? |

I haven't decided yet.. it came out of a 92 Swift 1.6i sedan. It may go back into a Swift 3 door hatch. In the meantime, I am doing research into how much work is involved in also swapping in the bigger transmission or keeping the existing one. |
