Just bought a Metro! Excited to tinker on this thing... this is where I am at right now, thought I would share! 1991 Geo Metro w/ (my guess) around 200,000 miles 1.0 liter 3 cylinder came with A/C but it didn't work, so I removed it 5 speed transmission... doesn't like to downshift into second gear and sometimes third ![]() I think the heater core is leaking... getting some moisture in the passenger side floor pan driver's side window is off track and in bad shape... compression: approx. 180 in all 3 cylinders (wow!) fuel pressure: approx. 25 psi at idle vacuum: approx. 27 in hg at idle & very steady! timing: 6* at idle (I adjusted it down from 10*) spark plug gap: 0.039" idles OK. If I give it light throttle, it runs great... if I give it half throttle or more it seems to hiccup and struggle... I tested the vacuum advance... it does not hold any vacuum and the "top nipple" is hooked to nothing... vacuum diagram under the hood shows a vacuum port on intake runner #1 and calls it a "gas filter" but my intake manifold has no such thing... Let me know what you guys think!!! Thanks! |

First of all, Welcome to the forum. I have a few questions.
What were you expecting more or less compression? Factory standard is 199 psi to 156.4 psi as the minimum. Yours seems to be pretty good.
At an idle the fuel pressure should be 13 to 20 psi. How are you coming up with a approx. number?
I have seen healthy engines have 21" of vacuum before. Only seen 27" during decel maybe. How are you getting a approx. number?
The gas filter is on the #1 cylinder intake runner. Sounds like your engine may have been modified from it's original condition. Can you post a picture of the engine from a few different angles? That may help sort a few things, us being able to see what you are working with. |

Well since all my tools are from Harbor Freight... I figured "approximately" was in order ![]() I am VERY please with my compression numbers! I was pleasantly surprised... Today I pull the codes from ECU and got O2 sensor circuit. Replaced it will a brand new Bosch unit and things got better... still not running perfect yet... I will get some pictures ASAP. Thanks for your input!!! |

Your welcome. If you have the vacuum advance type distributor and alll the hoses aren't connected than that could give you some drivability problems. Post the pictures and see if we can help you figure it out. |
