Like it says but then the car seems to run okay(Except for the bogging at low speed like many others) and the shift light still comes on and off. First time the check engine and air bag light has been off for an extended period on this car. Any thoughts? Thanks

Considering the ECM/PCM is a separate computer from the sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) and they do not communicate with each other, I would say the answer to your question is no. I would recommend doing at least the initial basic steps of the Factory Service Manual Procedure for checking both systems. At a minimum check or flash check for DTCs on both the ECM/PCM and the SDM. Maybe both bulbs are burnt out. Maybe the systems do not currently detect and faults. Since you made reference to one or both of those lights being illuminated for quite some time in the past, if your bulb works and the systems checks ok, you probably are just in a lucky period where your systems don't have active faults and enjoy it while it lasts. As far as "bogging at low speed like many others," that would only be like others - with engines and/or systems that are not in normal operating condition. A healthy engine with normally operating systems does not "bog at low speeds." |

Would have to be the 96. Airbags weren't available except the convertible prior to 95. Are you saying that the light which used to stay on is now off? Does it light up before you start it? I would check the codes and consider the light bulb maybe out... The airbag light should go out right after the car is running for 3 seconds |

Wow, I sure left out a bunch of info. Yeah, it is a 98 3/5.(Green Tamborin) Thanks for the suggestions, can't see the forest for the trees I guess... just did not think about the simple checks... Ahem, really only been driving this for maybe 6 months, Yeah, I just turned the ignition on and all the instrument lights come on (and the air bag light is flashing) Then started it and the lights go out but for 3 flashes of the air bag then it goes out... Yeah... enjoy it while I can, don't know why it is working, The young lady I bought it from told me she had put it like 3 used egr and it kept eating them. So I had checked the DTC and sure enough it was saying the EGR was not right.I have done a seafoam clean out several months ago and I do run it like 80 miles per day where the PO mostly only drove it in town, so maybe that has had an effect. Merry Christmas to me. (Does run kind of sluggish at low speeds, sometimes, unless I put my foot in it, |

The airbag light should flash 7 times when you turn the key, then go out if it doesn't find anything wrong."Everything works? Impossible! I need help to figure out why this car works!" ![]() Lots of things can trigger the EGR code, and the EGR valve itself is only one of them. Maybe she kept replacing the EGR valve, resetting the light, and then assuming the EGR valve was still the problem when P0400 came back. I just fixed the throttle stop and TPS on my '96, and the EGR code I've been fighting since day 1 immediately disappeared. Go figure. ![]() |

Could be that your heavier use f the car is exercising it and cleaning things up. I would clan all the ground wire connections, they're famous for causing intermittent problems and very critical for the sensors and PCM. EGR codes are usually not the valve, it's usually plugged passages going to and from the valve. |

20 miles out on the coumute.... check engine light came back on..... but not the air bag light. I will have to check the flash times on the air bag... thought it was three. |

could it be that easy? I've had code 400 since I bought this thing in 05. cleaned, replaced, cleaned replaced, cleaned again.... Each time it'll stay off for a couple days then it's back. I do have a tampered throttle stop and the tps is set at 1.3 volts... It's the only way this thing is driveable. If I set it to specs then the isc will constantly rev and unrev the engine... PM sent. |
