1993 Geo Metro Manual Transmission 5 Speed with 1.0 Liter Eng

The speedometer quit working. Suspected a bad cable, drove on. However, 15 miles down the road after that the check engine light came on. Stopped the car, it rested for about 10 mins, drove it again, check engine light went out but then about 15 miles later came back on again.

Is this check engine light related to the speedometer issue?

The cable seems to be fine (I inspected it). Could this problem be caused by low fluid in the manual transaxle?

Thanks for answering my questions. I'm hoping to save myself some time and trouble.

It could be but you would have to check the codes to know for sure. If it is it would probably be a DTC 24 for the VSS.

The computer definitely monitors the speedometer. If your check engine light is for something else, that would be a pretty bizarre co-incidence.
