Ok so first off thanks in advance.
1999 Geo Metro 1.0 yes the 3 cylinder.
It started out with a little hard to start on Wednesday. Thursdat i had to roll start. The engine will turn over but not start. Friday check engine light.
Codes are p0135 o2 sensor p0300 multiple misfire p0400 egr
Earlier in the year replaced cap button wires and plugs. But i pulled off the cap and orange rust looking powder inside the distributor. Bad or going bad i replaced it. On this car its an exact fit. So double checked the timing its good. Fuel pump is good. However still turns over and not start. So fire fuel and timing are good but backfires through both the exhaust and throttle body. Sure sounds like timing i know but tripple checked it.

I love basic cars and trucks easy to fix but i am stumped on this one.

There something I forgot to mention. That Friday on my way home from work it would die if i let off the gas. Even at 60 mph. I had to roll start it everytime. Engine turns fine by hand. However a compression test on Wednesday.

Sounds typical of a screwed up woodruff key on the crank or a burnt valve.

Burnt valve makes since with the egr code. Just curious where are all the woodruff keys located just the crank? I did look at the one for the timing pully.

EGR stuck open, timing belt skipped, Fuel pump or injector going, catalytic converter plugged up/collapsed, ground connections to engine corroded/damaged/missing.

So. You've confirmed fuel at the throttle body and spark at the plugs?

I have a question, and I don't know how to do the quote thing, when you say "Bad or going bad I replaced it", are you referring to the cap and rotor, or the distributor? If you replaced the distributor with a OBD1 distributor, that would be a problem.. Edited part, when you checked your timing did you also jump the plug?
