The 97 FSM shows 96 ft/lbs as the torque value.

There is no thread locker applied to the crank bolt from the factory.
I could have sworn there was a tech bulletin on this around '92 or so. They were coming loose (I know my XFI did, fixed under warranty with about 100K miles on it) so they started LockTiting them.

From 1990 to 1996 the 3 cylinder torque value was 81 ft lbs. In 1997 the 3 cylinder torque value went to 96 ft.lbs. Why the change I can't say.

I will see if I can dig up some TSB on it. In the FSM's I have i don't recall it ever calling out a thread locker being used on the crank gear bolt. I have taken 4 off that hadn't been messed with from the factory and none of them had thread locker on them.

I believe the 4 cyl. crankbolt torques over 100. even way over, but I could be wrong. Maybe that's why my second bolt snapped after 3000 miles. I'm gonna check the my '96 fsm again.

95 FSM - 3 cylinder 81 ft lbs. 4 cylinder 79 ft lbs

96 FSM - 3 cylinder 81 ft lbs. 4 cylinder 79 ft lbs

97 FSM - 3 cylinder 96 ft lbs. 4 cylinder 96 ft lbs

98 fsm - 3 cylinder 96 ft lbs. 4 cylinder 94 ft lbs

99 FSM - 3 cylinder 96 ft lbs. 4 cylinder 94 ft lbs

Looking though the GM TSB's for the metros, I didn't find any for crank bolts but did find this one.
