So I had all my belts done and this is the first day of snow. I drove all day but when it anowed, I started to get a squeal when I accelerated. It would happen and then go away. Could it be the belts again. I just had all of them replaced |

Sounds like a good tightening up is needed, new belts will naturally stretch with normal wear I had a belt squeak in my 91 , lossened the mounting bolts on the alternator and wedged a pc of wood in and pried the alternator back (the alternator acts as a tightner) and retightened the mounting bolts and squeak free since |

If you had someone who isn't intimately familiar with Metros replace the belts I can guarantee they didn't get the alternator belt tight enough. |

Tighten it. Or drive it more often. If it's going to squeal, it's going to do it after a longer period of rest. Mine will give a short squeal after having sat unused for a couple of weeks; it will probably be worse in cold weather. |

Normal people can't comprehend how tight it needs to be, doesn't seem right. Also, new belts stretch a little. I had a new belt put on by the dealer way back in the day (it was February and I didn't feel like screwing with it) and had to take it back for re-tightening three days later. |

With any other car, you'd think you were going to fry the alternator bearings, by tightening it the same amount. Tighten the piss out of it. When you can play a tune on the belt, it's good.

Thank you all. I think I'm going to drive it a bit more and then bring it in to have them tighten them again. |

Mention the pry bar between the block and alternator to the service writer. |
