When it won't start back up. Check for spark at the plugs, fuel coming out of the injector and compression. Find out which one you don't have

By the way have owned 6 of these babies since my first one in 1991 .Frames have rusted before the engine died. Love my metros still have one other 99 1.0L just replaced the engine 5 months ago and no problem.

You have all 3 of those things and it won't start?

If it were a three cylinder I'd say your fuel injector is stuck open, flooding the engine. Your car has four injectors, unlikely that all four are leaking, one or two should be close enough to right that it should start.

Maybe the coolant temperature sensor (or wiring) is bad and the computer thinks the engine is really cold. When it is really cold that's fine, but when it's not it's getting way too much fuel. Do you have a Check Engine light on?

Maybe the fuel pressure regulator is stuck closed and it's getting too much pressure.
