oil INSIDE distributor

My 92 Geo 5spd manual 1.0 had problems, even after warming up, with smooth idling, acceleration and power and there was a clattering sound around 45 miles per hour. So, I replaced the spark plugs and spark plug wires, thinking that they may have been the source of the problem, then I replaced the distributor but the problem remains. Upon closer examination, there is oil at the bottom, INSIDE the distributor. Initially, I thought that it may have come from oil leaking out from either the distributor housing gasket and/or the o-ring. That oil is visible on the block. My question is: Does this oil inside the distributor require that I replace the distributor or will the gasket and o-ring typically solve the problem?
Thank you for your attention.

Internal seal. There are a couple of guys on the forum that rebuild them for a couple of bucks, or you can replace it yourself. The part number is not listed at the part store, but it is listed here on the forum..... :hmm I think in the oring thread.
