Replacing Water Pump - 97 Metro LSi 1.3L; Trying to solve my No Heat, Overheating issues

Recently bought my 97 Metro LSi, 1.3L engine. Seller said he just replaced timing belt, did complete tune-up. I have NO HEAT. I have flushed the heater core, replaced the radiator, upper and lower hoses, and thermostat. My last resort is the water pump. After reading a few blogs on this job and looking at my motor, I'm not so sure I should take this on myself. Any advice and suggestions are much appreciated. Currently, if I fill my radiator with coolant and drive, the coolant cycles in to the overflow bottle, and my motor nearly overheats. Thus my belief it's the water pump. Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Water pumps don't fail that way. what you are describing sounds like a bad head gasket.

It does sound like a bad head gasket. If the water pump impeller blades were rusted away there could be inadequate circulation leading to overheat. A compression and leak down test would be helpful.

you can bring it up to temp with the radiator cap off and watch for flow, if you see it moving your WP is likely not the culprit, also a good time to look for bubbles.....

Question for those who have already responded....Why no heat on a popped head gasket?

As far as the coolant going into the overflow bottle, that could be a bad gasket on the radiator cap. No heat is either a plugged hose or not enough coolant, if it is a head gasket, it may be blowing the coolant out causing the level to get too low to move coolant through the heater core. May be a stuck temp blend door in the hvac module also.
