Found another Metro

I didn't need another Metro, but it was cheap, it was about 15 minutes from home, and the wife's been wanting to drive a 5-speed, so, here it is.

It has all of the usual cheap Metro problems. Missing side mirror, cracked windshield, duct tape on the headlight stalk, flat (and bald) tires, dents in the usual places. Previous owner says the transmission is great but the head gasket is blown. We shall see. I do like the color. When it quits raining I'll jack it up and check for rust.

bummer-so you can't weld it up like the other one and just use the car around town?

The passenger side is welded, badly, and would need to be done over. The driver's side is just shot. I know people in the rust belt fix these, but I just don't see it. With everything else that's wrong with it, it would take more time and money to fix than it would ever be worth. And we can all use some more spare parts.

Pulled the engine, transmission, and stabilizer bars a few weeks ago, and tore down the engine today. Pulling the middle spark plug resulted in a fountain of antifreeze. Front and rear seals leaking, RTV everywhere, timing cover chewed up at the bottom, rings stuck, a cheap head gasket with reused bolts that were a little more than hand tight, and best of all, JBWeld on the crank bolt instead of locktite. Took about a half hour with the torch and impact wrench to get the bolt out. Still looks rebuildable, depending on how much water sat in the cylinders while it was parked.
