I would love to post a pic, but you can Google it since Photobucket is screwed up right now. I had some friends come over to do some shooting and plinking and one of the guys brought this awesome Single Action Army type revolver chambered in .22lr and I absolutely loved it! I liked the fact you can shoot any type of .22lr or swap the cylinder out and shoot .22 mag. This gun was old and beat up since he had it for a long time and uses it a lot, but it was very, very accurate.

I did some research on this revolver and discovered very good reviews on it and an awesome price. The next day I went to the local gun shop and bought a Heritage Arms Rough Rider with the 4.75" barrel with the .22lr cylinder only. I said on the other thread that after getting my HP22A I would probably not buy any more firearms, but the 2 things I did not like about my HP22A is the accuracy since it has a short barrel, and the recommendation of running standard velocity ammo only in it.

I bought the Rough Rider because I enjoy plinking and it's really nice to extend my range and actually hit something 50+ feet away. Sure I could of bought a different caliber gun or got something "better", but I am happy with my purchase. I can finally use up that 600 rounds of Mini Mags and 333 rounds of hollowpoints I bought awhile ago. I also bought some Colibri quiet ammo and some shot shells for it :)

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

Congrats on your second firearm purchase. Keep it up, and you're going to want one with a "can" (supressor...aka "silencer"), so you plink til your heart's content, without annoying the wife, dog, or neighbors.

That's why I bought some Aguila Super Colibri rounds. Nice and quiet.

That's fun stuff to shoot, even w/o a supressor. I bought a brick of it a while back. Gave a box of it to my boss. He lives inside town limits. He got an air gun a couple years ago, in the hopes of being stealthy quiet enough to be able to do some pest control and enjoy plinking in his back yard off his deck with. Problem with it was, the air gun shoots 1,400 fps. It breaks the sound barrier, and thus, the sonic "crack" is about as loud as a standard .22lr. His busybody neighbors would probably report him. The Super Colibri is quiet enough for him to plink in his back yard with, without alerting the neighbors, or the local gendarmes.

when i started getting really interested in competitive shooting i bought a ruger mkII government .22 in the stainless steel 6 7/8th inch bull barrel. that pistol uses 10 round magazines and is super accurate, even out to 100 feet or more.

as odd as it may seem, i consider that to be my "best" pistol. it's too long to use as a concealed carry piece but it is the super plinker. :thumb

it's my "go to" for pest control and what i use to keep the ground hogs from getting too comfortable up close to my house and shed. :whistle

don't forget that silencers/ suppressors are still illegal under federal law. don't get caught with one. :news

My be illegal in your area but here where I live you can legally own and use them if you have the right tax stamp. It takes a long time to get it's a waiting game. I think they hope you give up before you get it. Took 2 years for my brother to get his.
Also baby bottle nipple clamped on end of 22 will work for a few shots and make hardly any sounds. My Grandmother lived in a small town that was over run with squirrels. She got rid of lots of them. Using this method. It did not hurt accuracy at all on her simiautomatic rifle.

I'm legal..

And, after just 2 more sessions with my tattoo artist, I'll have an additional copy of it, tattooed on my left buttock.

Then, if the law or the BATF ever hassles me about needing to see my tax stamp for it, they can kiss it, while they're there. ^o)

As of right now:
"Silencers are legal but are regulated by federal law and on a state-by-state basis by the Nation Firearm Act (NFA) branch of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (BATFE). Private citizens can legally purchase and possess silencers in 42 states* without a permit.
To purchase a silencer the following qualifications apply:
RESIDE IN ONE OF THE 42 STATES THAT CURRENTLY ALLOW CIVILIAN OWNERSHIP (of course, California and Illinois aren't on that list)
BE A RESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES
BE LEGALLY ELIGIBLE TO PURCHASE A FIREARM
PASS A BATFE BACKGROUND CHECK
BE AT LEAST 21 YEARS OF AGE TO PURCHASE FROM A DEALER
BE AT LEAST 18 YEARS OF AGE TO PURCHASE FROM ANOTHER CITIZEN
*If you are an FFL dealer, manufacturer, peace officer, or member of a law enforcement agency or other government agency, there are additional states where you can own a silencer."

It's not cheap. $200 to the BATFE and a bunch of paperwork. But it is legal, as long as you keep your paperwork with you, just like your carry permit.

Owning ar Ruger MKII 22/45, one that's not stainless, makes me blue. :'(
It is a good shooter, though. Also, it, along with my Savage FVSR, make a nice hosts for my supressor.

After work today I spent a few hours plinking beer cans. This thing is super accurate for a hand gun. Almost as accurate as my old Stoeger X-20 pellet rifle. I also did not burn through tons of ammo like I do with the semi-auto. Sure, blasting ten rounds, swapping magazines and blasting 10 more all in a matter of seconds is quite fun, but actually hitting a target with every shot at a good distance is more fun. Don't get me wrong. I am a pretty good shot with the HP22A with the short barrel, but you can forget about accuracy over 30 feet with it. I would not think a 2" longer barrel would make much of a difference, but I also think it has to do with the balance of the firearm and the sights.

I also like the fact that I don't have to spend time looking for and picking up spent cartridges off the ground since you have to manually eject them from the revolver. I am kinda anal about my lawn. It's nice for a change to manually load each round, cock the trigger, aim, shoot, and repeat for 6 rounds, then smile in satisfaction as you manually eject each round and reload. You sorta get get some nice one-one-one time with your firearm this way.

I also picked up a Bulldog size 14 canvas holster for it. It is just a tad large for the Rough Rider and would probably fit a 6.5" barrel better, but it works well and has good retention.

Sounds nice. Glad you are enjoying the new side arm. The guys I used to shoot with used to lay a tarp down when we would shoot. Catches all the spent casings and when your done, you can fold it up , and dump the brass into the trash or a container of your choice. Keeps them out of the yard, and great if you reload...
