In my city, there are a lot of car crashes. I have to wonder whether increases in the number of distracted drivers drifting over the center line, or turning wide into oncoming traffic inspired the government's small overlap crash test requirement. After sitting in snarled traffic after a Camry and a Corolla met in the middle, (they shoulda dosey doe'd instead of Allemande Left), I searched how carmakers made these crashes survivable. These images from a RAV4 test were a little disturbing..apparently the small overlap requirement only favors protection for the driver side. DRIVER: ![]() PASSENGER: ![]() |

Honestly, I will abandon the turn if I'm not sure whether to dosey doe or Allemande Left. I'd rather go out of my way than risk a collision. |

For us yes, abandoning a turn is way worth it especially because the normal speed on our normal town roads is 45 but who actually goes that slow. Crashes I've seen on our roads seem to be very brutal due to the high average speed. |
