Split this up a bit, because it makes it easier to parse...
Not to criticize, but 20k is approximately the budget that evmetro dumps into a single electric metro he is working on, if I recall correctly. Claiming you are going to start an electric car business on 20k is... an admirable goal, but not really feasible. Quality parts cost good money. Cheaper parts break, and would drive away customers. ![]() Just my two cents. |

A 6.0 Liter GM engine weighs over 500 lbs. I assume you would be removing the gasoline engine and all associated accessories (gas tank, fuel lines, exhaust system, wiring harness, etc.) before you try to put an electric motor in it. I figured that an EV runs on Batteries... Even then, an electrified Hummer would weigh more than a gasoline version. But when you look at the Tesla Model X, which can also tow 5000 lbs in addition to pulling its own weight around, there's no reason you couldn't electrify an Escalade or Hummer. Then you would be making the world "a better place". BTW, what experience do you have in converting a vehicle to electric? |

You're only 15? :o My bad. I can understand your passion now. Sorry if I came across as a crusty old codger. Maybe because I am one. ![]() Welcome to the board. Just be sure to keep an open mind on both sides of the gasoline/EV argument. There's a lot of decent folks on this forum with a lot of knowledge and experience. Good luck on your project and feel free to ask any questions here. If your father has done it before, then he should be able to help out. You should explain all of this on your fund raiser site to give people a clearer picture of what they're contributing to. That's a lot of money that anybody who considers donating to your cause will want to know exactly what they're working with. Details, details, details!

I commend your effort but I don't believe you will get people to just give you money. However, you can certainly work hard and earn money. At your age, I worked jobs from food service to landscaping to minor auto maintenance to pay for my projects. If electric vehicles interest you, I'd suggest getting into a technical field. Obviously a lot of personal factors will go into your career choice but anything from automotive technician to automotive engineer could get you involved with electric vehicles. You could certainly be your own boss in those professions as well. I don't know what kind of market there is for electric conversions but there is definitely a market for engineering. I know Clemson University has a great automotive engineering program as well as any university with an FSAE team. Idk if engineering is for you but I'm sharing because that is what I have experience with. |

Another future idea for you is what my cousins kid did. He wanted to do something similar to you as in start his own business building package machines, sort of in line with what his dad did. He went to college and got a BS as a computer hardware engineer (partly because his dad and I both do industrial electrical and PLC programming), got recruited right out of college and 4 years later now is making 130k a year and doesn't even have to live in a big city. Already payed off all student load debt and has got a 50k start on saving towards funding his own business. I waited till my 30's before I really got it together with a plan, wish I would have laid out my future better when I had the chance back in high school, lol. Point is, don't set yourself up by thinking that something like a gofundme page is going to help you. If that's really your passion to make a business out of it, while it could take you ten years to get there, using the right tactics, studying till your brain cells are raw and working your self to the limit is what really gets you where you want to go. That's just my 2 cents (and maybe another dime added), at least you got a cool dream of playing with cars.

I wish you good luck. Pursue your dreams. Don't take any shit from naysayers. What year/model are you going to use? I may have a few parts I can give you when you are into your build. Nikola Tesla had a few good ideas... |
