This is one of the more modern Suzuki's I think they don't build them as well as the ones that came out of Canada |

I did that with my '96, into the back of a parked semi. Not that fast though. |

Here is an 89. The front crumples, but the roof doesn't fold. Then you have this test from 93 and the roof folds. Then in 98. you can see how the driver's area no longer folds. Its much stronger. |

Feet pulverized. Knees shattered. Broken Femur. Bones in hands- broken. The forum member who's vert was hit from behind was profoundly lucky. He had 5 or 6 feet of steel crumpling away, and absorbing energy. If, like me, you have a 94 or earlier Metro and you run into anything at 50 or 60 mph, you will not be drinking a beer and laughing about it later. |

Body-on-frame vs. unibody. The unibody has the advantage of crumpling and absorbing the impact. The frame plows through with sheer force like an offensive lineman in the NFL. |

The 95 Metro was the first car to pass the new 96 crash test. Everyone had to redesign their cars, Suzuki/GM just got a head of the curve and did it a year early. When I crashed my 96, I was very impressed by the way it held up. From the firewall back it was perfect. All the windows were intact, doors opened and closed just fine. The only injuries were from the airbags. |

These illustrate it best. The 2009 Chevy Malibu vs 1959 Bel Air Crash Test shows how a lighter design can be safer. The Nissan Tsuru is based on a 1992 design and was never updated and shows how unsafe the old designs were. 2009 Chevy Malibu vs 1959 Bel Air Crash Test 2015 Nissan Tsuru vs. 2016 Nissan Versa |
