Back to the thread theme: I love/drive my metros because I fell in love with the little ecoboxes when I borrowed/repaired a '90 3/5 for a week... put in $7 dollars of fuel and drove 160 miles before the gauge returned to empty... Then I just had to own one but liked the 4 cyl auto sedan better. Still remarkably simple to work on and fun to drive around thinking everyone else getting this kind of mileage from their vehicle has paid 5 figures to drive. |

Truth be told.... My girl at the time said " if you buy another car, I'm outta here!". Knowing she had always kept her word in the past..... I bought the Geo!

Street Racing!.. I drive 5 miles to work so I spend $20.00 a month on gas the car cost $1600.00 which is about what I would spend in gas money driving my old 1965 F100 for a year so yeah that's why!..

Because I love the fuel economy and reliability. Plus the chicks know I don't need to compensate

It's a great city car It's reliable It's small, so it fits in parking spaces and easy to get through traffic It's not a Toyota or Honda so no one will steal it for parts It's cheap to own and maintain And no one wants to mug me because they think I'm broke for owning one. |

I was just looking for a car for my in-laws. All I had since 1985 was my 15mpg Dirty White Van and my bicycles. Now that I think about it, I did want something I could drive to volunteer at the animal shelter in the winter because my RWD Van does not like ice. I got the Filthy Beast sort of on a challenge because the parts store guy said he couldn't fix the oil pressure problem after his nephew ran it out of oil. Thanks eBay engines. I continue to drive it because it is fun, cheap, easy to work on and I can't afford anything else. That and I am grateful to everyone who makes up this fantastic forum, and our leader , even though I have not been able to participate as much recently.I do have a new BFF though. i had a vw golf once. I don't like paying a mechanic $1000 for work and having no idea what they did. |

I'm frugal, and I love sticking to the man. (Oil man, that is.) Got 59 mpg on my ride home from work tonight. I have gotten even better. That's my 99, 3 cyl, 5 speed hatch, with no mods. What's not to love about a car that can do that? |

I drive a Metro because I like high maintenance cars that are cheap but interesting to repair. My right foot likes to be flat on the floor when I drive. This is the only car that lets me do that without anyone noticing. My Metro is also a key part of my early retirement plan. |

I can drive all the way to the Mullets, about 2700 miles one way, then back home and it was only 116 gallons of gas. And the fuel was cheap enough along the way to run 93 octane. Fear the Mullet. |

I got into mine more out of curiosity than anything. Had a 16 MPG SUV as a daily driver at the time making fairly long trips throughout the state, was interested in fixing up a small fuel efficient car for commuting and this one was free, sitting around. I continue to drive mine because a) its a hoot to drive b) i'm proud of the work I've done to keep it running c) it saves miles on my new SUV and it saves on monthly fuel cost (since I still drive an SUV) d) perhaps most importantly, the community/friends and camaraderie we have here

It's a "don't let anyone but yourself touch your car" even if its an automatic. |
