I drove my very first swift GA with 1L engine... and always keep it until now and then drive - Nissan Pulsar XE auto (idiot brother sold it without my knowledge...) really smooth to drive... It was my first favorite and pick car to drive... but Nissan Pulsar SE is kinda expensive... and CA18DET is big project... so dropped. - MK2 Firefly Turbo (sold) - MK2 Sprint Turbo (donor car) - Convert Swift GA to GAT (but not drive for 2 years due to wiring issue and false promise with TS member) - Forsa Turbo (sold to my brother's friend) - MK1 rusty Firefly Turbo (donor car and scrap due to huge floor rust) - MK1 Sprint Turbo (donor car) - MK1 rust-free Sprint (turbo swapped failed and abandoned at the shop... ex-friend scrap it... too much drama) That's it no more MK1... because it's mk3 is much better and safe to drive... I was going to sell all MK1 turbo.... too bad I lost a lot of money... well... maybe totally 600 ![]() - MK2 swift GTi (scrap due to no start issue... and no place to storage) - MK3 Swift GTi (best GTi ever... unfortunately accident and sold it because I don't want to repair the repair or drive the rebuilt car) drive only GAT so no more project cars ![]() - GAT had clutch issue... and then bearing failed.... no time to rebuild the transmission - rusty 1992 Toyota Corolla auto... accident due to no brake and scrap it... really scary experience. Pretty reliable car like my mother's old car... pretty slow and soft to drive. - 1994 highly modified Ford Probe... accident due to idiot N driver. really powerful and much fun to fun but the gas is not cheap... I don't know why honda driver doesn't buy it... It's one of best FWD sporty car ever. - 1995 Geo metro.... best 1.0L geo metro ever... lost of the control at highway... - 1992 Honda Accord EX... accident due to my brother drives it. My buddy did a lot of work on it... really reliable and smooth to drive. kinda heavy and not good at gas. - Finally rust-free 1994 Swift GL auto... drive for one year (donor shell for GAT project) - Now I drive rust-free Swift GAT3 Now it's my new project to do... oil catch, wideband AFR gauge, turbo, head, exhaust, etc! no more swift GTi or t3 because they are already rare and rust... I do consider to find the MK5 swift with G13BB but maybe not.. due to rust issue. I drove many different type of cars even 2017 Corvette ... I found my GAT much fun to drive.... of course cheap to work on and great at gas! New car is pretty overrated IMHO. Edited by CMA, Sep 19 2017, 10:32 PM.

Originally, I sought out a Metro for it's gas mileage to act as a commute car. Told my coworkers if I found one, I would tint the windows and park it in the next lot so that I could remain incognito. Stumbled across my previous white car, and it being RHD, I had to have it despite it being an auto and went out of my way to be seen in it. Lost it in 2013 and by that time, I had already been a member here and part of the great group of folks. I wanted another even though it would be a LHD like everyone else on the road. My current car has gone from commute car to main vehicle with me having to sell my Jeep, and I continue to proudly pimp it. |

Keep yer eyes on CL around the mainland, you're bound to find one eventually! I only paid 600 bucks for my 4/5 Swift and only pulled the trigger because the horns are just fantastic. Couple dented fenders and a pushed in door skin but that's all easy fix

So many reasons! Great mileage, reliable, cheap/easy to work on, the great friends from GMF, ect. We know this. I got to thinking today, how some people look down on me for driving this silly thing. So much so that, they will never have anything to do with me because they are "better than me". Sweet! These are the EXACT people that I do not want in my life and my car takes care of it for me before I even have to deal with it. So dang awesome! I'm over seven years in and I'm not going anywhere! We have fun with this stuff don't we? ![]()

;P I do have that rusty '99 still, I can even get some doors n fenders on it once I finally slap the less rumpled ones on the 98! For real you (or anyone!) can just have it at this point, the only value really is the Rio seats and the G13BB in it! I don't wanna see it go off for scrap with a good engine in it My DOHC arrived yesterday -sans MAF, coil, and airbox.. but.. at least it arrived! More to the topic: I've had several 95+ and a 92 and a 94 over the years. I'm always amazed at how much stuff I can fit in the rear with the seats down and STILL get great mileage despite my heavy foot. I like the over all look of the 95+'s, especially with the "blade" bumper but I would give that all up for an older one with pop rear windows and minty frame horns in a flash. It'd be easier to stuff the DOHC in too

I've owned the 93 since 99, it's my DD and I just passed 260,000mi, and still haven't had to pull the head off yet, simply amazing cars, preventative maintenance goes a loooog way.. |

I bought one because I got into an accident in my Honda Prelude and I really wanted something good on gas and cheap. I picked up my 91 Chevy Sprint for 600$ and I drove it about 20k for my delivery job. I sold her and Picked up my 4 door swift sedan with the 1.6L, only gets 35mpg but has a lot more power than the previous car currently working on a 5 speed swap. Lastly I got a 97 Metro off of one of my friends to drive whilst I am getting my swift fixed up, only has 160,000kms on it and drives pretty nice. Once my swift is fixed up going to redo the front end suspension then throw it in my storage unit until I need to use it again. Also flipped a convertible Geo last yr.. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

I got my first one in early 2000, it was a 89, or 90with the wool interior. I loved that car. I was driving 100 miles a day and gas was 2.50-3.00 gallon. when the rebuilt motor was mostly wore out for the second time- I sold it. and missed it. I purchased Mahana from the dad of one of my kids' friends. He liked the fuel economy- but he toasted his motor, and parked it. I bought it for 350, and rebuilt the motor and ran the car until I had a stupid moment that ruined the car forever. Her remains resurrected several other metros- and I currently drive a vert for fun, and Dinky for winter efficiency. I used to put the gas savings in a separate account, and we'd use that money to vacation. We don't do that anymore- but we still do take some amazing trips. We too are looking at retirement, and driving gas sipping cars factors into savings. My oldest kid had to figure out our family carbon footprint for one of her college classes- and our family had the smallest- largely due to what we drive- the fact that we are energy misers and water miserly too. The teacher asked if her parents were hippies. go figure

Bought my first Metro new in 95, and traded it in on my 96 the next year. I originally needed something cheap and new for the wife I had back then to drive to college in. I had no idea that I would be driving Metros forever back then. When I decided to build electric cars, my research for the best donor chassis lead me straight to the Metro. I bought one specifically to convert to electric. I enjoy the three Metros that I have converted to electric, and I enjoy all the other gasoline ones, so the Metro is my car of choice. I have other cars as well, but I don't like to drive them. It's not a money thing either, since I can afford fancier cars, I just prefer Metros over other cars. |
