Hi, After replacing the cam and crankshaft oil seals, I think I discovered the source of my oil leak- a blown o ring at the dipstick on my 91 geo metro 1 liter.-where it fits into the engine block. Problem is, cant seem to buy the right size. After trying both english and metric sizes, still flummoxed. Anyone know the right size o ring for this engine? Also, where one could buy one? Thanks in advance for your help. David |

I've also ran a little rtv around the old o-ring and put it back with no leaks (with the o-ring still on the tube)-you just have to wait a little for the rtv to cure- |

I have re-used O-rings and gaskets by putting a little RTV on them. I do this with my mowers all the time. I am in the middle of something and don't want to have to make a run to town. It usually works just fine. One issue I had was on the carb float bowl gasket. RTV isn't impervious to gasoline and it will dissolve over time. Particles ended up clogging up the carb. The rest of the ring was fine so I just cleaned it out and re-used it again. I have a new O-ring on hand for when/if this happens again. I would have no concerns about doing this in contact with ordinary oil. I use black RTV on most things except for high temp applications or a Geo Metro oil pan where you might want to get it apart in the future. Black RTV is good stuff and quite tough. Just don't plan for it to come apart easily. Conor |
