I was putting on a new set of wheels with those special wheel nuts that require a spline adapter and a nut got cross treaded and it spun the lug inside the drum on the rear. To save the aluminum wheel I am thinking I will have to cut it out from the rear and replace the backing plate and ll from a salvage car. Any other ideas? Thanks

If the wheel has a hole in the middle, you can take off the spindle nut and remove the drum with the wheel still bolted to it. Then, just grind off the head of the stud from inside the drum. |

This is a good idea but if the hole isn't big enough to get the grease cap off you might have to ruin the cap to get at the hub nut. It.s cheaper to replace the cap than a wheel. Ken........... |

Thanks ragtop and woodie. I would never have thought of that. I am not sure how to get enough tug to pull the drum out. Usually I have to use a puller. |

You can always drill it out from the front. |

You should have a little extra leverage on the drum since the wheel will still be attached. Ken............ |

I've always taken rear drums off with my hands. Usually remember to let off on the parking brake before I try it. |

PROBLEM FIXED. I took out the other lug nuts and let the weight down on the offending stud. That held it while turning off the offending nut! Thanks all. |

Maybe a little. Just as long as there was sideways pressure on the lug is all I cared about. It worked and save me a lot of grief. |
