My 96 3/5 No A/C 190K mi was running great. Began moving the gauge needle to just under the top white line during 20+ mi summer trips. Outside of that no other problems. Went through the cooling system same as you swapping with a known good radiator on another 200k mi car. No change. Out of desperation I swapped out the cat converter off the same 200K mi car. The overheat issue went away. I hope the radiator change fixes yours.

Sorry, should have posted sooner. Put the new radiator in, took it for long trip hitting long inclines. air temp was 80+ degrees, needle stayed right in the middle of the gauge. Check the radiator with the IR thermometer, no cold spots. I think the problem is fixed. Thanks again for all the good advice.
