Rotor button design

I finally replaced my plugs, wires, cap & button tonight! I am/was(?) experiencing pinging at certain times and I hope this helps. The clip on the old button was situated over the flat spot on the distributor so I I put the new one on I oriented it the same way. It would not go one and I realized that the contact would have been on the wrong size. There also plastic ridges in the new one and that's when I realized that I just need to turn it 180 for it to go on. The ridges create a flat spot to match up to the spot on the distributor. It fit on fine and seems to run fine. Is this just a different design? The new is made by Standard and is the black one in the pic. It seems to be ok from a short test drive, but I just wanted to get some input and hear someone else say it's just a different design.

Thanks,
-RR
