95 Geo Metro dies while driving

My 95 Geo 993cc died while driving. Would not restart, had it towed home.
After 30 minutes at home it started up with no issues,
Drove it for 3 miles and died on me again. After 5 minutes it started again.
What's defective here?
Thanks,

CLC

Is there any codes or check engine light on? Sounds like it might possibly be the injector. You need to find out what it is not getting when it dies to know for sure.

catalytic converter plugged??? sounds like it is a strong possibility to me, when they get old and plugged-- and then get hot from running it will shut down the car or cause a huge loss of power, once the CC cools it will fire right back up again and run till it gets hot

I was reading elsewhere that the main relay could be the cause. Apparently some solder joints cracked and expand when hot an engine dies.
Where is the main relay in this car?
Thanks

When it dies see if it is losing spark or fuel. That will tell you where you need to procedure to next.

I'm alone in the car most of the time, so when it dies I cannot check the spark.
I'll carry some fuel or starter fluid and I will be able to tell if it is a fuel problem.
Thanks.

Keep it with you and use it to see if you have spark when it dies.

Yep that is where I was going. No need to suggest it if he doesn't have one.

I've checked for spark when I'm alone by disconnecting the coil wire at the distributer cap and setting it down on something like the top of the air cleaner and watch for spark through the space at the bottom of the hood-of course if the spark problem starts under the distributer cap it wouldn't detect that-

Yeah you've only tested half the system....

If I was going to blindly shoot in the dark, making and ass of u and me, I would guess your injector is failing.

Thanks for your suggestions and opinions.
If it's a lack of fuel, when I spray starter fluid in the intake, the motor should run.
The problem could be the pump or the injector. Is it common for either the pump or injector to stop working while driving then start working again a while later?
