do those removable rubber donut type things on the engine and tranny mounts serve any purpose besides falling of duting instalation to annoy me? |

Best guess... ...to help prevent oil and gear lube from contaminating the rubber mount material...

The donuts are also there to dampen severe fore and aft, or side to side movements that could otherwise allow the mount to slam into the ends of their respective metal brackets. You will also see these donuts on the control arm bushings. |

I probably should have clarified that the control arm bushings have the same function as the donuts on the motor mounts. On Swifts you can buy the control arm bushings separately, lube them with soap and press them onto your control arms. I call the ends of these bushings donut washers.
