Vacuum hoses

Since you replaced the throttle body gasket are you sure it was place on correctly. I'm not sure it can be turned upside down on the obd type engines or not. I know it can on the the obdii ones. If that happens it can block off the vacuum source to the fuel pressure regulator.

No it isn't fixed. I cant find a throttle body gasket on Oahu. Ill either have to have one shipped from the mainland or.... has anybody tried cutting a gasket out of a sheet of gasket material?
If so, I could just take the torn one off to make a template and make one with an xacto knife.

I wonder what kind of gasket material it is and if I can find it at my local Auto parts store.

Yes a gasket can be made from gasket material. Most auto parts stores carry it.

Does it look like this? If you want it just pm me your address and I will send it too you.

Yes that is exactly what it looks like. Idk if it had a small tear when I installed it that I didn't notice or what but after starting it a half dozen times and finding the leak it is very noticeably torn now.

Thanks freegeo. I already ordered one from California hopefully itll be here in a couple days. I'm also waiting on strut mount bearing stacks to show up before I can finish building the struts.

Hopefully they'll both show up the same day and ill be able to finish all of the major projects on the car.

hey guys I installed the new TB gasket. Everything seems to be vacuum tight now. I'm wondering though, should my idle go to 1500 rpm for warm-up? that seems kind of high to me, but maybe it is just because I still haven't fixed my exhaust.

1500 initial rpm is okay. Should start to slow down gradually to 850rpm within 2 or 3 minutes.

OK that sounds like just about where I'm at.

Hopefully this thing will drive almost like new now once i sort out the rotted exhaust pipe near the muffler, and get the A/C to work.

Cooling system seems to have burped out easily enough. New shocks struts and Vogtland lowering springs installed. It seems to zip around just fine.

Thanks for the help.

OK so I finally got her all the way warmed up and at warm the idle is still high (around 1300 RPM). I have checked for vacuum leaks and have found none. Fast idle is 1600-1700 RPM once I looked at the guage from the seat.

I found a procedure of turning on the A/C and adjusting the A/C vacuum switch to set the idle to 900 RPM +- 50 RPM. It specifies putting a spare fuse in the diagnosis terminal while adjusting the idle.(Why?)

Is there anything else I should test before setting it that way? I would hope no one has ever touched this idle switch and therefore idle calculations would be taken care of by the PCM.
Is there a sensor, or any other component that commonly fails in this way on these?

There is a idle screw that can be adjusted. I would have to look for details about it.

As far as I know, the idle adjustment screw is fine to mess with. The problems come up it you just change the idle to cover up another problem. It will affect your gas mileage if you do this too. The screw is under a little black plug near the throttle cable linkage on the throttle body.

I think the recommendation is to have the spare fuse and/or jumper wire in to set a "base idle". Not sure why that would matter if you adjust it while it's fully warmed up with accessories off.

Have you checked the IAC valve? There's a "how to thread" on repairing the thing if it's bad. Seems like it's really only supposed to play a role when the engine is warm and an electrical load is turned on. Try disconnecting the vacuum hose that plugs into the bottom of the "air box" on the firewall side and plugging it with your finger or a bolt.

If the black plastic 'tamper resistant plug is in place, then you probably should not remove it just to tweak idle speeds. If the throttle body has 1/4 million miles, then maybe there is additional wear on the throttle plate, and fitting in the bore.

There is something involved with the Upgraded emissions and the ISC that do have a tendency to freak the idle... (surging, higher than 1300, too low at start, to high when hot) If you have upgraded emissions, maybe a thorough clean and lube of the ISC is in order here.
