Hi guys, I haven't been as chatty lately as I rebuild my G13BA engine out of my 1996 Geo Metro but I need some advice and maybe some help. So I decided that since I was rebuilding the bottom end of my engine, might as well do the top, so today I jumped in, tore the upper end apart and to my chagrin my camshaft is bad. One of the lobes looks like the surface of the moon which is surprising since the bottom end was still within spec.

So my question is, where can I buy a new camshaft for a 1996 Geo Metro G13BA 8 valve engine? Please let me know soonish. I would prefer new over used but....

I have looked already. The thing that perturbs me about this is supposedly the camshafts for the 89 to 95 suzuki swifts are somehow different from my 96 metro but the engine is the same.

The 89-94 Swifts had adjustable rocker arms that you had to set the valve clearance on. Your 95-97 1.3 has hydraulic lifters and has a different cylinder head. 98-01 had 16 valves and is different again so your 8 valve engine was not made very long. That is why it is difficult to locate cylinder head parts for your engine. I have a 16 valve core engine but no 8 valve hydraulic stuff anymore.

But all I need is the camshaft, not the whole head.

I will definitely look around their website and see if they have what I need. The Part number for the camshaft I need is 91171173 it should have a slit and not a cog where the distributor is.

That is exactly what I am looking for, too bad I don't have the cash on hand. :banghead I think I am going to look into how much having the lobe welded and grinded by a local machine shop might be and then consider my options. :hmm

You might want to post something in the wanted section. Too bad you don't have a pull a part near you. They are $26.50 there.

ha...so you're in the market for a camshaft...but you have 0 cash to actually spend?

How do you plan on paying the machinist? I cant imagine a camshaft can't be found for less.

I have had mixed results welding cast.

a weld and remachine repair on a cast iron cam is gonna cost MUCH more than a new one and MUCH, MUCH more than a good used one. (or regrind)

I never said I had zero cash but I can't afford what the guy wants for the cam.
