I just purchaced a 91 metro 5 speed starts and nuns fine smokes like crazy under a load used a can of motor flush changed the oil still smokes pretty bad under load and slightly at idle. 135 to 155 compression so rings right? Can I just hone and re ring? Can I use the cheap $20 set off ebay?
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Piston-Rings-Fits-85-98-Geo-Metro-Chevrolet-Sprint-1-0L-SOHC-/251680688350?fits=Year%3A1991%7CMake%3AGeo%7CModel%3AMetro&hash=item3a995688de:g:WVIAAOSwBUVZ3PM-&vxp=mtr
I want to keep my repair as cheap as possiblle I also have different engines to choose from if mine looks really wornout. 89 to 93core motors are their any differences that would make any particular year motor better for rebuild? Thanks for your help

after you got your 135 to 155 compression numbers did you add a little oil to each cylinder to see if the numbers went up? if the numbers go up then that may indicate bad rings, if they don't then it may be the valves-perhaps your car is still smoking because of the engine flush-as for rings I've had good luck from a cheap set from ebay-they've been in for a few years now and the car uses very little oil-I even slapped them in there without honing the cylinders-

You can rehone on the cheap and put in rings but you risk damaging a valve.

You may have valve guide leaking. I run a geo with compression at 130 even all the way across and it did not smoke. I would bet on more likely bad valve guides.

Steady smoke under load not much at idle. When I get back out where I parked it ill do another comp test just like to mention check engine light code 23. 2 and 3 spark plugs almost completely clogged with white crud #1 plug clean not burning super clean plug looked slightly moist and more black smoke smelled mostly like oil but maybe rich I found 1 vacuum line unplugged under the intake coming from the box on the firewall. I plugged it in. Code 23 runs non stop is there a fuse in that shouldn't be shouldn't the light just stay on instead if blinking 2 and 3 times? Injector seems to spray a nice mist. Valve guides cause oil smoke screens? Also un hooked the PVC hose and cranked up the throttle revving several times and smoke was bad. No notice of oil spray coming from pvc hole. Engine oil was dirty engine flush after 5 minutes was not as dirty as I expected. After oil change still smokes under load did get slightly better after 13 minutes of driving. the last og which I was trying to get it to smoke. It was still bad enough to attract attention. Thanks for your help. Was hoping to just throw rings in and drive.I thought the heads on the 1.0L only had cam journal problems and the burnt valve issues. I have to pull the manifolds to check for oil on the valves?
