I disabled my facebook account today but so far I haven't deleted it-one of my "friends" posted a link today of a mother who accepted a "friend" request from a stranger-I could see my self doing that because I accepted 95% of my "friend" requests (even from strangers) because I don't like to hurt people's feelings-this women's "friend" then found out lot's of information about this women's 5 year old daughter by monitering the account-he then supposedly kidnapped the girl to use as a sex slave-if they can put a man on the moon someone should be able to prevent this from happening (I guess the mother can) I just don't want to be associated with an outfit like that where something like that could happen-if I were Zuck and that happened to me I would dismantle the company (not sell it) and pray for God's forgiveness-so I guess I will be getting my discussion entertainment on this forum and the local newspaper-facebook totally sucks-
You shouldn't punish all because of the outliers. That's the problem on facebook is soooo many people put so much info about themselves or kids on facebook. It's pretty much an invitation for an evil person to do harm.

Also, NEVER accept a friend request from someone you don't know. Think of it this way. Why would someone you don't know want to be friends with you? Don't worry about other peoples' feelings. I have about 40 requests from ppl I know and I'm like "eh, IDK if I want to add them". Some people that are close with me get slightly upset because I don't immediately accept their friend request.

One thing I find funny is when an average person has 3,000 friends....GTFOH. You just want attention. I don't trust those people. lol

One should always verify the "fantastic" stories that get posted about a friend of a friend.

And here I am absolutely loving FB and what goes with it. I get to argue Politics on my local news pages all day, keep up with friends and family I don't live near, buy plenty of "stuff" (Metros included) from FB Marketplace (and other ForSale pages), and have a handy place to store a lot of my pictures and such.

Guess I'm the minority here.

Why you Mutt!

I admit that I also have the facebook monkey on my back. However, I like it because it has allowed me to keep in touch with friends, reconnect with people from my past, argue politics with strangers and watch cat videos. Also had a person who bought a car I used to own (a 1973 Mazda RX2) find me (he lives in New Zealand, where the car was shipped to after a person purchased it from me off eBay). It had apparently passed through several hands after I sold it, and he needed some info so he could complete the registration process and get it back on the road. So I got to watch his progress as he refurbished it...it has a bit more potent engine now LOL!

Sadly, deleting facebook really doesn't accomplish much, one reason is that they never actually delete your account, you can come back next month next year 5 years from now doesn't matter and just log back in and it's like you never left.

The other reason is this.

So if you have any friends/family/acquaintances/people who have your email for any reason(craigslist deals, any businesses that use facebook, etc etc) odds are then that they have a big profile on you regardless of whether you have even ever used facebook. You can request them to delete your file, but they will only delete what you have contributed, not anything they gleaned from other sources/your friends etc. So good luck the internet connected world is to small to hide anymore folks.

when i hit the "delete account" button facebook sent me an email that indicated that my account would be re-instated if i logged back on within 14 days. the email also indicated that after the 14 days the account would be deleted and could not be recovered.

i'm not trying to hide. i just don't want a facebook presence. i really don't want any of those icons you see on news feeds, twitter, snapchat, pinterest, etc. anyone in the suzuki community who wants to find me knows how. ;)

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

And I especially hate all those stoopid fuking Facebook "groups" that so many people feel irresistably compelled to join. So much so that I almost joined this one, but then thought better of it.

without thinking, i clicked on your link. i was directed to facebook and the page told me to open a new account. ;)

my old one used to just open on it's own as i had saved the password. this tells me that my old account is now truly defunct.

Glad I could help - you to ensure you're now defunked defunct.

It was link to a FB group, entitled: "People Who Freaking Hate People Who Join Asinine Groups", that, to this day, still has but one member, its founder, a gal I went to HS with.

When my son in law murdered my 37 year old daughter on August 8 th, he sat outside for a while texting from his phone to her phone to make an alibi; then he called 911. The EMT arrived and got her heart restarted. They wanted to unplug her but she is pregnant so they keep her on life support for another 3 months. Any way the investigators and prosecuting attorney has done a internet search of all popular sites to gather incriminating evidence. They actually determined thru GPS even though he had it turned off that the phones were 16 inches apart and the texting happened 5 minutes before 911 was called. The law states that all communication via wireless has no right to privacy and they only need a court order to bug or listen in if it is a hard wired land line. Any transmission that can be received wirelessly has no right to privacy as any one with a proper scanner can recieve and listen. Here in Idaho, People get prosecuted based on the confessions they make on face book and the witnessing their friends attest to on Facebook . Based on my son in laws account, he has been sitting in jail 4 months on $500000. Bail. When my sons wife stated her inlaws are weird and every one should smoke a blunt to remember her dead x drug dealer; I don't have Facebook but a friend showed me the post on their phone. She can never take back her opinion or confession about drug use. Hopefully it doesn't cost her her children some day.... What a world..
