Thanks. We're okay. Got to probably less than 1/4 mile from us but is now into the main part of ventura (I'm on the edge). Last night was scary - went out to the ranch we ride at to help move horses - too many horses, not enough trailers and fast fire. We were moving some from the upper corrals to the lower when the first came over the hill at us and the from the right. Had to just let a bunch of the horses free, get the hell out and hope for the best. Thankfully this AM our trainer went out an miraculously they all survived - huddled together for security, sooty, but safe. May friend and acquaintances lost homes and businesses. It's moving up the coast - I hear it's butting up on the 101 north of me so getting to work might be interesting tomorrow. Knock on wood - my house/tract is safe for now. (copters are flying continuously though, making spot drops of water) |

We lost everything in the Bastrop, Tx. fires in '11, livestock included... The fire did the same, came in fast, and with no warning. There was no time to pack things, or to load the animals... only advice is to put all your important papers and your computer back ups in a carryall of some kind and have it on the ready... May you stay safe and alert for sure... Prayers for all affected...

Winds expected to pick up again tonight. Fires burning in Santa Paula and up the coast next to the 101 freeway towards Carpinteria. Ojai is in danger. |

That pretty much what happened in the greater Santa Rosa fire. Horrible. I hope all our friends and theirs are safe. |

Here's some websites showing the damage. Drone footage https://youtu.be/uwVc5VFAleI Confirmed house burns https://www.google.com/maps/d/u/0/viewer?mid=10S-m7mBzbjvG1rjiJ8wFAIbeG-F5VoKS&ll=34.29194578782898%2C-119.2097920544702&z=15 National Guard is here keeping people out of the burn areas. If you have a house in the burn area that's still standing, you'll get to visit for 15 mins, with police escort, to get what you want and then you have to leave. No private vehicles allowed in the area. Curfew lifted on the town except in the burn areas. We don't have to boil water anymore either. Oh, and Johnny Cash's house is still standing too. |

That is so spooky to zoom in on google map of what was once there, knowing it is a pile of ash now. |

How did it miss some houses and burn almost everything around it? |

I did some volunteer work down in the Santa Rosa area a couple weeks back. I was wondering the same thing. Houses for miles all burned down to nothing, then one or two still there. Must be where the wind was coming from. Eerie. Very spooky. It goes for miles in all directions. |

Must be like when a tornado goes through. Some are lucky and some are not. |
