Well Penelope is officially historic...at least according to the BlueGrass commonwealth.

Went down to clerk's office...She said "Why certainly!" I sez "Let's do this then".
Clerk sez "Just in case you're really proud of her, here's you a plate for the front bumper too'". Well, gee....how special.

KY only requires one plate but I guess now they offer 2 for historical rides like Penelope.

"Suzie", my stock 85 5-speed Z31 w/49K on the clock already has hers but she don't get to see much daylight anymore. I probably should show her a lil more luv and keep the mice blowed out of her.

Been grinning bout this all day. Only 6 more years and "Earl", my slightly lifted 99 Burban gets em too. But whether I'll be above ground to see that momentous occasion is a big ? mark.

Been thinking about doing this, too, but I have heard it causes problems with insurance rates. Any info on that?

There are differences in many cases. However, as far as I see it, here in the Bluegrass, it's a Geo Metro
and I'm not pretending this is a highly sought after classic worth more than it's original cost. My particular
model had a $7399. MSRP. It's worth a lot more to me than any one else and if it had a tussle @ 55 mph
with a 100 year old oak tree, I'd feel badly (considering if I were to remain alive and still had some kind of
brain activity left which is doubtful considering no air bags, crunchability ratings, etc). So I can justify providing
the required liability coverage to keep me legal and responsible.

Were it a '69 Plymouth GTX, immaculate 440 six pack perfect in every way...I would seek out a classic car insurer
for it's worth in today's market because that would be a great loss. Not saying losing my lil Metro wouldn't be a great loss
but it'd only hurt for a day or 2 where the mangled, totaled out GTX would hurt for a long time and my hip
pocket would be greatly impacted.

In other words, my net worth wouldn't be affected with the loss of the GEO. Back when gas was $5 a gallon, I essentially
doubled the value of the car when I filled up it's little gas tank.

In Ohio, historical plates never need renewed. So yeah, a lot of owners of older cars get the tags. They are also kind of lenient as to when you're allowed to drive it, although the law states it has to be for shows, going to the shop, auto stores, etc.
