Even if the Mirage sells well, their profit is probably low on them compared to the Outlander. Im hoping they can hold on and do better but they arent doing much to attract buyers.

I'm totally awesome! I swear.

Since this thread likely has the attention of most of you recent Mirage converts...sellouts...defectors... purchasers, and since I'm too lazy to start a whole new thread topic, one with a poll, I'd be genuinely interested to know, just what kind of "real world" mpg's that you Mirage owner's are getting with yours, if you don't mind sharing, and, being brutally honest about it?

Committted as I am to my Metro, I'd be lying if said there weren't times, like now, where I'm thinking to myself.... :hmm if I could pick up one of these puppies under $10k, that may not turn out to be the worst decision I've ever made. Don't get me wrong, I love/hate my Metro, but, there are days, particularly when I have to go out to the driveway and fuk with it again - in less than pleasant temperatures, no less, that I do start to wonder what it might be like to have a car that is more like a reliable appliance; just park it in the driveway until you're ready to use it again, like a blender, but without concern for continual maintenance and upgrades to it.

When I look up the average mpg's on them on fuelly.com, I'm not impressed. But, not all of those owners are as mgp-concious as most of us here are. I'd like to know just what kind of mpg's can be expected with one - a 5 spd manual transmission one, if one were actually trying to to extract really good mileage out of it? I don't mean insane hypermiling techniques with it, just - gentle driving of it, going a max of 65 mph with it on the highway. How many of you are actually getting 50mpg tank averages, or above? If I couldn't average at least 50mpg with a Mirage, it wouldn't be worth it, to me, given how many miles I commute each week.

if metro-like mpg and warranty was all I cared about, I would buy a new Mirage. But I like working on quirky cars and I'm a sucker for a pretty face body...so I will carry on with my 17- 20+ year old Metros/Swifts/Cultuses

If you know how to get 50 mpg out of a Metro, you will get 50 mpg out of a Mirage. As with all gas-only fuel sippers there are lots of factors. Weather, tire inflation, etc. I am sure I don't need to tell you this, but get...the...manual. :thumb

Mine has 82k on it now, and honestly I don't see it getting up into the mid-50s as much as I used to when it was newer. Of course, that is to be expected. But she still does high-40s pretty easily. Unlike my '97 Metro, my Mirage is equipped like a 21st century car should be. If you want a manual car with bells-and-whistles of any kind, GET ONE NOW. The manual will only be offered on the base trim cars for '18 (for some reason).

I think the lowest tank average I have ever gotten was 39 mpg in the dead of winter. The highest was 52 mpg in early summer. This is all mathed-out at each fill-up, btw. I'd estimate my lifetime mpg would be somewhere around 47-48.

If it's good enough for :mullet it's gonna be good enough for you, brother! In the fall of 2014 I was right where you are now. I loved my Metro. It was easy to fix. I just got sick of FIXING it...

Just like cobra jet said. I can get 50 plus mpg from the Mirage in the summer at speeds under 60 mph if I drive sensible. Wifey drives like any woman and averages mid 40's no problem. The worst mileage I got was this week at 37 mpg driving in harsh winter conditions.

I have no regrets buying my Mirage :rocker

Thanks much for your feedback, Cobra & JM.

I tend to be a bit bipolar, when it comes to the idea of buying a new car. Last night, for example, while I was drinking, after coming in from working on the Metro out in the cold for several hours, I was gung-ho to go out and buy me a new Mirage. As of this morning, however, I was able to go back out in the cold, and get the last of the maladies corrected with my Metro, and take it to get the, much needed and 2 mos overdue, annual inspection done on it.

I did some extensive on-line shopping for a new Mirage last evening and today, in the hopes or expectations that I might be able to get one - "out the door", for around $10k, but such is not the case. The best offer I've been able to obtain thus far, was for a new 2018 Mireage ES 5-spd. My plan would have been to walk in, put down $2500, and drive out in it, owing no more than $7,500; which I would have worked diligently toward paying off, by this time next year, when my GF goes to retire. I, absolutely-positivley, do not want any revolving debt or non-essential monthly payments, once she retires.

Anyone out there know of any better pricing that can be had on a new Mirage, than this?:

MSRP: $14,385
Total Before Tax
$12,022

Larger dealerships are usually the ones who offer better deals. You might even find a leftover 2017 somewhere. Mentor Mitsubishi has good prices...

Wow! That's way better than I've been able to find on them here in my neck of the woods.

None of the dealers anywhere near me will get anywhere close to Mentor Mitsubishi's, "10,885". Unfortunately, 500 miles is just too far to travel for one, even at that price. That would be 1,500 miles of gas an wear and tear on the vehicles.
