Yep, I've looked at Leafs for a while now but they're out of my budget.
I was looking into the pricing of some used Nissan Leafs in my area, just this morning. They're a lot higher in price than the Fiat 500e.

I grew up in the 70's. Back then, the brand name Fiat stood for, "Fix it again, Tony!". I trust more in the inherrent reliablity of modern day Bosch EV technology, than I do in that of some Cannoli's 50 y/o internal combustion technology.

Hard to find the 500e, well in the little bit of time i've been looking, that is.

You're right. It looks like you'd have to travel a pretty fer piece, just to find a mediocre deal on one:

Seeking the Science of MPG

Go for a IMiev then! I actually saw a CL ad for a good looking one in Iowa for 3600 not long ago. They're rare but also cheap.

I know a guy in California who makes EV's out of Metros. I think his name is EVMetro or something cryptic like that. With you being used to GEN2 Metros you could get a GEN3 EV Metro from him and you'd think you bought a Cadillac.

Buy my Miata and a Hardtop.
It doesn't fit the MPG requirements.

If you can ever remember his name I might have to ask him.

Sure, he does really nice EV conversions, superb even. Problem is, to the best of my knowledge, he hoardes them and never sells them. Added to that, even if he were to, given what he puts into them, in parts, custom fabbed bracketry, and an insane amount of labor, it would cost you far more than you could pick up a nice, slightly used, Fiat 500e or Nissan Leaf, for. And, in the end, other than the drivetrain, you'd still be sport'n a 25 y/o, spartanly equipped, Geo Metro, not a, modern day, fully loaded with power options, conveniences, and safety appurtenances, vehicle.

My advice, do lots and lots and lots of research and shopping, weighing out all the pro's and con's, after determining all your needs and wants, then, try like hell to remain within your predetermined budget. Similar to a house purchase, try not to get emotionally attached to a particular target purchase. If the price isn't right, simply walk away; there's plenty of other, fish in the sea houses and cars out there for sale. Best of luck, CB.

There's not a chance I could/would afford one of EVmetro's rides.

I noticed the sign for the local Nissan dealer posted a 2012 Yaris for $6000. I don't know anything else about it but that such as the condition, mileage, transmission type, etc. but these are coming down in price too.

Okay, Since you want electric, under 4k, new, more passenger capability, easy repair/maintenance, and a short commuter...

Found a 1995 Honda Accord wagon. Doesn’t get the MPG I wanted but it has its perks. Gonna try and check it out this weekend.
