I imagine that you probably said that in jest, maybe not. Truth is, I kinda like my 2014 Mirage ES. Bought it wrecked, with 36k on it. Hung a driver's door on it, got the driver's rear door and quarter panel straightened, plus a complete, all over paint job. Air conditioning, power steering, CVT trans, abs brakes (that saved my butt last week when I started sliding on ice) traction control, blue tooth and 46 mpg average. All this for UNDER $5,000. Oh, did I mention 46 mpg? Yeah, that's right 46. I have gotten as high as 56 on trips. I actually drive it more now than my Metro. Our Metros are, or will, rust into obvilion before long. This is the next best thing I've found to replace them when that happens. I guarantee, we'll be picking these up for next to nothing in a few years, and swapping parts to keep them going just like our Metros. Ok, stepping off my soap box now. |

I find it hard that anyone with a Metro would bash a Mirage. Maybe the electronic components are annoying but NO CAR is ever going to be as simple as a Metro again in this country. And it is still quite a simple little car compared to most others these days...... The Elio should have been called a Mirage if you ask me. The thing may show up but will never actually exist! I am all for keeping the Metro's going but there will be a time when we simply can't find parts or they will have mostly rusted away. There will need to be a new car like the Metro and I think the Mirage is as close as you will get. Sure, the Versa may be more simplistic and basic but I hear stories about them falling apart in like 40,000 miles. The Mirage is a basic cheap car with no frills but it seems to hold up well with miles. There don't seem to be a lot of patterns to the failures which are not common. The Aveo was meant to be the Metro replacement but it was junk compared to the Metro. It feels like a more solid car but it wasn't anything comparable in terms of mileage and reliability. It ate timing sets and self-destructed quite often. The Mirage is more like a Metro, plus it has a timing chain so you don't need to worry about it. It is DOHC so likely interference. I like chains in this case. Conor Edited by cwatkin, Jan 19 2018, 12:08 AM.

I agree with Conor, I see very few metros around here. The ones I do see are rusted pieces of junk and the ppl with the nice ones want $2k....Im not spending 2k on one when in a few years, the mirage will be around 3k. I'm waiting for that. I'm not against a new Versa. I didn't realize how cheap they are. I also agree that if you drive a metro, but call the mirage a POS, then you are confused. I really haven't heard anything significantly bad about them. |

Newer cheapo cars are all turds, not just the mirage. I sympathize with those who live in the rust belt, but all I have ever seen are rust free metros. I would drive from one side of the country to buy a rust metro though, rather than settle for a mirage. The Metro is the holy grail of cheapo cars. Super easy to work on but rarely needs work. Outrageous fuel economy. Inexpensive parts and registration. A plastic interior that wipes clean and comes out in ten minutes. Sounds happy when it runs. Has a super cool internet community. Very easy to buy without having to finance. Survives divorces. |

I remember describing the Metro as the "Beetle of the 90's" back in the mid 90's. |

The "beetle of the 90's" is more of a turd than the real beetle, just like the mirage is more of a turd than the Metro. |

True, it is the cheapest....but at the same time there are more things than comfort. My Jetta TDI (although significantly higher maintenance) still gets 50mpg hwy and is significantly more comfortable to drive. I definitely wouldn't drive that far for metro. I'd drive that far to pick up a rust free classic car though. The metros are perfect for what they are, but If I have the choice of a metro or a few more for a mirage, I'm picking the mirage. Personal opinion. |

I can see the Mirage as equal but not superior to the Metro. It'd have to be clearly better in my eyes to make it worth it. My black 95 has 99K and tons of life left in it. This red car maybe two more years rust wise. Once I move out and have a garage to charge it in I'm learning toward making an IMiev my first non Metro car. Only EV with a handbrake and normal radio likely to ever be made . Ok well the 500e fits that too, but I've read that with the IMiev it might be easier to upgrade batteries to current chemistry tech when the time comes.EDIT: just saw this on yahoo: https://www.yahoo.com/tech/peugeot-embraces-electric-cars-bid-160100490.html Look at the featured picture!!! That's called the Peugeot Ion if I'm not mistaken(badge engineered), I may be able to get a new IMiev when the time gets here! Edited by WiscoMetro, Jan 19 2018, 09:38 AM.

Although my personal opinions are strong, I have deep respect for the opinions of others. I would not think less of anybody for choosing a mirage. The most important thing to me is seeing people choose whatever car they like, even if I think it is a turd. I am confident that most of society view my Metros as turds. |
