While driving in the left lane on the highway yesterday, a driver of new Toyota RAV4 wanted to swerve into my lane while its amber lane departure amber light was illuminated in its driver side mirror. As he started to come toward my right door, I could see his mirror light flashing amber rapidly and the driver fighting his steering wheel to continue his swerve into my lane. Luckily his battle with his car's counter steering safety system gave me enough time to brake and avert being sideswiped. I suppose this Toyota feature saved my Metro from being smushed.. but the driver of the RAV4 probably just thinks something is wrong with his steering. |

I'm sure this is the case. I did about 1200 miles in a 2017 one of those, and to say the new Rav4 is a drivers car is like calling an avocado a power drill. EVERYTHING about that thing is designed so you can be just as distracted as you want and the car will just "handle" it. I'm sure, right up until shit goes WAAAY south. It's like the damn thing was built just to LET you text and drive. The entire time I was in that thing, I was acutely aware that the car was in control NOT me.From what I know about most Rav4 owners, they wouldn't have it any other way.

Too bad we don't get the RAV4 from other parts of the world. I drove a AWD 6 speed desiel RAV4 in Iceland. Quite a different beast. It let me pretty much do what ever I wanted as I was rally the thing off road. |

Hmm.. Makes me wonder about my encounter... On I-270 all logic breaks down in traffic... Less than 35 mph and the Rav4 in front of me has 3-5 car lengths... brake light. . ... car changes lanes in front of it... brake lights.... another car in front of it.... brake lights... I finally get my chance to go around and sure enough, the idiot is looking at his lap with a phone or tablet lighting up his face.... |

Saw one of those yesterday, second lane from the left, going 45, then 65, then 45, then 60, for miles. Some wobble verging upon the lanes on the sides too. |
