"At this point, we almost feel bad for the Mirage — almost. Mitsubishi’s subcompact is one of the cheapest cars on the market, and it won’t let you forget that anytime soon. A rough and buzzy three cylinder engine, and a shockingly cheap feeling interior make the Mirage a chore to drive, especially when there are dozens of better new and used cars out there at its mid-$10K price point." What the hell does that even mean, anyway, does anyone know? WTF is "mid-$10K"? Is it $5k to $10k? Is it $10k to $10,500? Is it $10k to $15k? Regardless of which, I challenge anyone to provide me with a list of, even 1 single dozen, let alone plural, of NEW cars that can currently be purchased for under $15k. <crickets> Edited by PTA2PTB, Jan 22 2018, 12:33 PM.

many of us on this site believe that $10K would be a good budget for acquiring 5 pristine Geos, or 50 project Geos. Around here 10K would buy you a 15,000 mile, garage queen, 2000 Benz SLK. To spend it all on just one car seems imprudent. But if you must have a new car go for it. |

Having a lot of special tools for the Germans and a tolerance for their ideas... That and Benz will sell you any part for any post war Benz as long as they exist. I'd have a hard time saying no to Grandpas SLK for 10k. Honestly I have a hard time with the Mitsubishi, I can see it being super cheap, but it's looks are kinda Fuggo and really it's not that much more for a Fiesta or if you got money a 3banger Focus. |

What you fail to realize, likely because you've NEVER actually purchased a brand new car yourself, is that all of those prices are, "come-on" prices, which are designed to get you in the door, not tell you what you can expect to pay for the vehicle. I defy you to walk into any new car dealership, offering those so-called prices, then drive one off the lot, for that advertised price, plus - ONLY, tax, title and tag charges. On average, you can add about $1,500 to $2,000 onto those advertised prices, for all those hidden fees of: desitnation charges, dealer add-ons, dealer prep fees, and doc fees. Don't believe me, ask someone who knows, like Horn, he'll tell you. He's worked for the bastards, and seen it first hand. It's criminal, as far as I'm concerned. I mean, ANY and ALL expenses that a dealer incurs in procuring his inventory and passing it on to the consumer, is part of his inventory costs and overhead, regardless of where it comes from, and any advertised for sale price, should include all those costs, ALWAYS. Here's a classic expample. I've just spent the last 2hrs emailing back and forth with these dickheads, in the hopes that, maybe, just maybe, they were a little more above board than the dealers here in my area, and that I just might be able to land the car for just under $10k. Not gonna happen! Try around $12k. This argument has come up before. The Mirage is a great car for what it is. That isn't to say a better car can't be purchased for a little more which I think is the most valid point. The Metro is cheap, noisy, and feels flimsy but runs like a top forever if cared for. It seems like the Mirage is this kind of car. I hear stories about the Versa burning oil, etc. within a short period of time. I don't hear these about the Mirage. I looked into a Kia Rio for my GF at the time she got the Mirage. I thought it was a very nice car for a lower end model but the dealer gave us the runaround and we went for the Mirage instead. They had a flyer in the mail when we got home from that dealer that would have avoided all that nonsense and we would have likely bought the Rio. They called me to see if we were still interested and I told them exactly why we left and that the flyer had a nice price. They kinda were like, that is just to get you in and was the base model. I had to remind them that they had to jockey around cars to get the manual transmission base model out of the lot so we could drive it! There was silence. Yes, I agree. A bunch of used Geos could be bought for the price or a nicer car just a few years old could be bought. I still think this is a pretty good deal for a new car. It may be cheap but at least the mechanical parts are tough and quality. Conor |

I've received several follow up emails from the salesman at the Mitsubishi stealership down if Florida, telling me to to bring him the best deal I can find anywhere else, and he'll beat it by $500. I already shut him down, just as soon as he admitted that they play the same pricing games as "ever other dealer". The guy's to ducking fumb to realize, I don't fuk around, I don't go for bait 'n switch tactics, and if you Edited by PTA2PTB, Jan 23 2018, 12:59 PM.
