Why would the Germans care about a car like that? They had cars that were a 1000 times better already. It would be no threat to them, nor was there any great engineering secrets to steal, lol. French dont make great cars, good cars maybe but nit great. |

the 2CV was more fuel efficient and half the price of the VW Beetle. Its light weight and FWD transmission brought comfortable mobility to farmers despite crappy roads. compare the 2cv with anything else developed in the 30's and 40's not everyone could afford a Daimler. the 2cv was probably like many free world people's car designs.. cheap and rugged... just like the Metro I might add. First read about the 2CV in an article in the Wall Street Journal around 1985. Designed to be affordable and easy to operate, where two farmers wearing wooden shoes could drive it with a 100 pound sack of potatoes 100 miles to market. Some protypes considered using firelfies to light the headlamps. French women are known to kiss owners of the 2CV as it is likely the first car they ever "did it" in when they were teens....um, nowadays, older French women. (I read that article when I was 16) Cost a small fortune to get the cars in the US and modified to meet safety standards for road worthiness. I believe they had suicide doors. Or both swung out, so you could put big things into the car. Edited by BillHoo, Jan 24 2018, 03:30 PM.
