So I just recently bought a 1992 geo metro 4d hatchback. And I want to replace the headunit but it looks like the owner before me cut out the original wiring harness and just put in the crappy headunit by just connecting the wires with electrical tape. The headunit that is already if there also doesn't power on. So basically my question is what do I have to do to get a new head unit in. Thank you. Yeah |

Check out 1st post "helpful stereo links" You need a reverse harness. They have them on ebay or you could hit a pull a part and get your own. I think the colors on either should match up to your cut wires. |

i don't even use the factory wiring when i install a system in my metros. i run new wiring for everything using suitable power cabling, speaker wiring, and rca cables for amplifiers. the last system i installed got a new fused 8 gauge cable from the battery to a power distribution block behind the center console under the dash. i connected the constant power for the radio, a usb power strip, and connected a power antenna to that power block. i installed a relay to the constant power block that operates from a signal from the ignition switch to the switched supply on the head unit. i ran 2 runs of 4 gauge cabling from the battery to the rear of the car for amplifiers and an 18 gauge wire from the head unit to remote switch the amps. i ran really good speaker cabling from the amps to the main speakers and heavier gauge cabling from the sub amp to the sub. and i bought really high quality rca cables for the signals from the head unit to the amps. remember that whatever current runs through the positive power cables also returns on the negative power cables. i used 4 gauge cabling for the negative sides, too. i ran all the power cables on the left side, all the speaker cabling on the right side, and the rca cables down the middle. this separation reduces interaction between the cabling runs to keep hum and cross talk to a minimum. |
