As the topic states my compressor runs the whole time that the A/C switch is on. It's in my 91 vert and we're going to Glacier Park this weekend and the air comes in handy when the sun is beating down on us when we have to wait in line . I can shut the switch off every couple of minutes to cycle it that way. I'm just worried that it might build up too much head pressure if I let it run constant. I put the A/C system in in couple of years ago and wonder if I missed something. Ken............ |

What refrigerant did you use? That can be normal with the hydrocarbon based stuff. |

First... "hydrocarbon based stuff" has less wear on the compressor, does not require staying on longer, and has less head pressure than r-12 and a lot less than 134a and cools more efficiently in an old r12 system... A note: if the pressure does become too high or low it will automatically shut the compressor off due to the in-line duel pressure switch ... As far as checking the system; just a few queries... Does the system stay cool? Can you feel the compressor turn off upon heavy acceleration? |

What is hydrocarbon based stuff and where do you get it ? It feels like it's getting plenty cold and I don't think it shuts off under acceleration . Ken........ |

Butane is one, propane is another. Some use a mixture for better performance. |
