Another update.

I bought a GTI rear bumper and mk3 GTI taillights from xrw44 on teamswift. We met in Lithonia Georgia, a little east of the Atl. Sadly we were the only people to show up, although 2 mk2 Metros drove by while we were talking. I will get some pics of the bumper and lights tomorrow. They are not on yet, the bumper has to be painted. I think i am going to spend my tax refund on a new paintjob.

Also, we put an FMU on the car to see how it affected the fuel and so far the results are mixed. The car is obviously getting much more fuel, but it falls completely on it's face at 4psi. We believe this is fuel cut caused by the map sensor getting increased psi. We are going to try a trick that works on TBI civics. We are putting a one way check valce on the line going to the map sensor to try and keep the boost away from it. Results will be known in the next few days.

I put in a Walbro 255 today after finding out that i was ripped off by a guy on Teamswift. I was told he was selling me a GTI fuel pump, instead he sold me a stock Metro pump. I was too dumb to question why the pump was the same size, so i got screwed.

So today i put the 255 in and it seems to have fixed all the cars lean problems with one stroke. I have an FMU on the car and i need to put the wideband on it to tune it better, but for now it is VERY fast for a Metro. Sadly my brand new clutch is already starting to slip on the 1-2 shift...

Pics and vids to come soon.

PS. I am having the wheels/tires installed Thursday. I went with Nitto 195-50-15s, i couldn't turn them down for $42 a tire brand new. For all the tires, putting the tires on the wheels, balancing, and mounting i spent $300. Can't complain about that one bit.

I also bought a pair of mk3 GTI taillights from xrw44 on teamswift. They are badass also. Pics to come in the next week of car with wheels and taillights.

wait a one way check valve? are you sure you are trapping boost on one of the sides?

and "putting the tires on the wheels" and "having the tires mounted" are the same thing! :deal

I guess it's time to update.

I went to the Montgomery Import Face-Off on the 31st. I haven't really done that much since I put the wheels on a few months ago. I ran the car against a friends 1990 240sx. I wound up DESTROYING him. I ran a 15.9 @ 84, he ran a 17.4 @ 81. I actually got a standing ovation from the crowd when i beat him. I wish i had a vid of that. The only problem is that i killed my headgasket during the run. I haven't driven the car since then. I am saving my money untill i can get the head re-machined and put on.

Here are the pics:

if it makes you feel any better I blew my headgasket too and am not driving mine

but kyle I did a bunch of reading and this is what im going to do:
get head resurfaced again (gonna cost me like 50 some bucks, but I want to rule it out
scotchbrite the block surface
felpro head gasket
permatex copper spray !!
read good things about this product and im going to use it for sure. and also make sure you dont touch the surface of the gasket anywhere. even if your hands are clean, just the human oil we seep is enough to cause problems in the future.

if you are keen on keeping that stock ecu and your fueling is ok, you should consider a cheap alcohol tank

I actually did EXACTLY that. So far it's doing great. The car is running stupid rich, as in i can't let it idle more than 1minute or it will load up on fuel. Other than that it is running great. I also put some kyb struts and H&R lowering springs. I will get pics tomorrow.

well if you DID do that, then im going to have to come back to the timing issue. throw an alcohol pump on that thing, unless you want to keep doing head gaskets. I know im getting tired of it.

gr2s+h&rs is what ive got and its great. pretty rough though, look into poly bushings and better sways. I just bought an underbody brace for mine

I think you misread my post.

When i redid the headgasket 2 days ago i used the copper spray and felpro gasket.

you are right, sorry I did misread it. good that you got it running again, did you do a compression test too? curious what the numbers for that motor are, probably close to 200? how did the piston tops look? please tell me you took a pic of that and the cylinder walls. I was hoping to see
