I installed the Audiovox CCS-100 cruise control kit on my 97 Metro 3cyl. It wasn't too hard to install and works pretty good. It holds speed ok but it slowly drifts slower on any sort of incline. This small engine doesn't produce enough vacuum to consistently hold your speed. To fix this problem you need to install a little vacuum tank with check valves which I have yet to do. |

I would use a PTO cable hooked from the dash to the TB linkage. You would have to remember to release it though. |

Yes, a hand throttle. As long as you are aware of how it works and don't mind the look of it in your dash, it would work great!......................![]() I know it can be done. |

What happens when you go up hills, wouldn't you have to pull it out farther to keep from slowing down to much? |

You can make a vacuum canister, this should give you an idea of what I am talking about. vac canister. Search google for cruise control vacuum canister, I'm sure you can buy one also. |

Newbie from Noblesville, Indiana here. Sorry this is my first post but I must comment on this subject. I have had cruz control on my Metro for 4 years, it does not work as nicely as a factory installed on other cars. But the use of a throttle cable such as a PTO or choke cable is very dangerous!! Yeah, it would work, but what happens when you have to panic stop... a deer or God forbid a child runs out in front of you. You will not think to release the throttle cable or be quick enough. That is why cruz turns off when you hit your brakes. Now if you are serious about wanting cruise control on your metro, then Rosta makes a nice set up for our metros. 96 GEO METRO CRUISE CONTROL Part # 250-1176 If you want to use vacuum or if you prefer not to: PART # 250-1223 This is a pedal pull only type of car, meaning that the cable does not go to the throttle/carb to hold speed. It runs through the firewall and hooks to the top of the gas pedal and "pulls" it to hold speed or to accelerate. The newest version is better then the one I have and it can be tuned a bit to take out any unwanted characteristics. Here is thier website http://www.rostra.com/cruise-control.htm |

Thank you for that information! Yes, I should have noted that the "Redneck Cruise Control" could be dangerous in an automatic. In a standard, you'd just blow it up

How much is the Rostra setup. I couldn't find prices on their website. The Audiovox CCs-100 setup I have sounds similar to Rostra as in that its gas pedal pull using a vacuum actuated servo. I paid 80 bucks on amazon.com for it which isn't too bad. I couldn't find any cheaper cruise control kits than that. I seen the heated seat kits they have from Rostra, that looks pretty cool but expensive. I think eventually I am going to add heated seats, power windows and power locks. I'll make some How to threads here on this forum whenever I attempt them. |

J Mullet the only way I could consider the hand throttle is if it releasted on applying the binders. like any cruise control does. Thanks Joe I will check out. |

Also on a side note would a cc that had some gain adjustment that allowed the car to drift say between 2-5 mph be a good compromise. |

Yeah, my service truck (see avitar) has a hand throttle and I use it for cruise. The aforementioned panic situation has happened to me several times, you forget and push the brake, nothing much happens as the turbo spools up and then you remember the throttle but you're too busy steering to reach for it so you just stab the clutch and then your motor goes up against the governor just as you get it stopped and everybody looks at you like WTF? 'been drivin that thing long? It is not a pleasant experience. The cruise I put on my Checker has an adjustable sensitivity, and when adjusted will open that throttle up full in a hill. I would advise the purchase of an adjustable aftermarket cruise kit. I can't remember the brand I used but just look for the "sensitivity" adjustment when you buy. Oh yeah, one other thing; if you don't like how much the cruise 'drifts' put two magnets on the driveshaft instead of one, or four instead of two. This moves the operation of the little computer into the higher freq range and it works better. Edited by drivinalunchbox, Nov 24 2008, 03:59 AM.
