One time I missed out on buying a '94 Geo Meto XFi, with factory installed A/C and cruise control (so said the owner). Though I have never seen a cruise control on the '89-'94 Metros before and the owners manual doesn't mention anything about them. Was a factory cruise control even an option on '89-94 Metros? Also I don't think A/C was a option on XFi's. Though I suppose you could have special ordered one from the factory with whatever you want on it, right? |

How would that happen? Doesn't using cruise control usually increase you gas mileage since you're keeping the speed constant, instead of constantly slowing and accelerating. |

No cruise control available on any Metro as far as I know, and you're right, no A/C on an XFI. It can be installed and look exactly like factory, but the factory never did it. Yes, cruise control would most likely increase your mileage. |

I would have to disagree about getting better mileage with cruise control. Cruise control (IMHO) works just the opposite of how you can get great gas mileage. It accelerates up hills and decels downhills. It doesn't know when you are about to climb a hill, so it is max HP all the way up, more or less. Maybe it would be ok on long level flat roads. But if you start getting hills involved, you can kiss the gas mileage goodbye. This is subject to great argument, and I'm sure the engineers can prove cruise control is just peachy. I will still say that constant throttle position (amongst other hypermiling techniques) beats cruise control for MPGs any day. |

well , you could always disengage the CC when in a hilly area .... i do not have CC on my geo metro . but i have noticed on both my other cars the CC does not get to decel fuel cutoff down most hills so with engine running i can just shift into neutral on the really long down hills that are steep enough to keep speed up enough to flow with traffic , i know an idling engine uses more fuel than decel fuel cutoff but decel fuel cutoff wipes out all the available energy from the hill so it depends on how steep and long the hill is . which technique gets used ... |

As with almost any blanket statement, specific situations are going to be exceptions. If you can get 60 mpg out of a GEN3 Metro, you are an EXTREME hypermiler and very much in tune with you car and operating conditions. The average driver is brain dead and treats their car like a toaster. I deal with them every day going 50 mph on the superhighway until I manage to get around them, then suddenly going 75 mph. For 90% of the driving public, a cruise control will increase mileage. |

I have a 99' 1.3L Auto tranny and bought a SCS Friggett cruise kit from JC Whittney! Spent around $150 on it and has worked GREAT! Called the 800 tech number to find the exact speed wire to tie into at the ECM and tech support was AWSOME! Found out later at local shop that this is the same brand they install for $250-300!!!!! Highly recommend!!!! |

I have never had much use for one. It makes me drive lazy. And if you are not paying attn: then you are at risk. It helps me to be one with the Rocket. You can anticipate the driving conditions if you drive far enough ahead. Hopefully. As I get older though, it is getting tougher to see at night. Bummer |
